The German Shepherd
The German Shepherd Dog is considered "a natural dog breed", unchanged with no additional need for surgical "enhancements" of any type such as ear or tail docking or "excessive grooming". The German Shepherd Dog can do it all, and do it all well. No other dog can do so many different things as well as a German Shepherd.

About Von Dietrich German Shepherds

We were founded in 2006 by Jeff Dietrich as a breeding and training facility for German Shepherd dogs. We breed these magnificent animals to the breed standards set for American Kennel Club for the show side of our business and the SV "pink papers" for the working /sports bloodlines of our breeding stock.

German Shepherds Make Wonderful Service Animals
Aside from providing healthy, happy, puppies, Von Dietrich German Shepherds also provide guide dogs, services dogs for seizures, dogs trained for PTSD, and children with Autism. Puppy 101
The Rule of Sevens
Pat Hastings, AKC Judge and coauthor of "Another Piece of the Puzzle: Puppy Development", offers these hints for socializing very young puppies.
By the time a puppy is 7 weeks old, it should have:
- Been on 7 different surfaces, such as carpet, concrete, wood, vinyl, grass, dirt, gravel, wood chips, newspaper, etc.
- Played with 7 different types of objects, such as big balls, small balls, soft fabric, toys, fuzzy balls, squeaky toys, metal items, wooden items, paper/cardboard items, milk/soda jugs, etc.
- Been in 7 different locations, including the front-yard, backyard, basement, kitchen, car, garage, laundry room, bathroom, crate, kennel, etc.
- Been exposed to 7 challenges, such as climbing in a box, climbing off a box, going through a tunnel, climbing up steps, climbing down steps, climbing over obstacles, playing hide & seek, going in & out of a doorway with a step, etc.
- Eating from 7 different containers, such as metal, plastic, cardboard, paper, china, pie plates, frying pan, etc.
- Eating in 7 different locations, such as crate, yard, kitchen, basement, laundry room, bedroom, x-pen, etc.
- Meet and play with 7 new people, including children and the elderly.
Early socialization, which includes stimulation from a variety of sources, can go a long way toward producing an outgoing, confident adult.
